Summer's last hurrah | Norton of Morton
Last Saturday, I went along to Salford’s Big Day Out where I spent the day sauntering around with a megaphone in my hand making announcements.
Think of me as a town crier, only at a festival, and wearing an American seersucker suit.
Joined by my chum, Barrington Powell, we had a licence to be silly so did just that.
It was an absolutely scorcher of a day, chumrades. We’ve had a very sunny September in the North West of England so I thought the event would provide the ideal opportunity to give my summer suit an outing.
I acquired the suit last year from Messrs E&Bay. Seersucker is a lovely light material, making it perfect for the warmer months. I paired it with a charity shop bought straw boater, linen waistcoat and co-respondent shoes.
With all the sunshine, I’m afraid that things soon got a little heated. Barrington got involved in some Victorian-style fisticuffs with one of the fine fellows from Roberts Bros Noted Ices, purveyors of the finest ice cream and beverages.
Thankfully, things cooled down quite quickly and things were hotsy-totsy once more.
Now it’s officially autumn, it’s with a small pang of regret that the seersucker gets banished to the back of the wardrobe. But at least it had a last hurrah!
Thanks awfully to Mr Jason Lawton for the photographs. You may remember his Sherlock and Watson pictorials from last year.
