Being a jerk | Norton of Morton

Now chums, I’ve been mulling over a purchase for a good year or so – a reproduction leather jerkin, worn by British armed forces in both world wars. 
Robert Shaw worn one alongside Barbara Bach and Harrison Ford in war flick, Force 10 from Navarone.

Like a lot of military clothing, this made it onto Civvy Street, becoming part of the uniform for workmen that carried heavy weights on their shoulders, such as a binman or coal man. 

Take this fellow in the 1954 film, Lease of Life, pairing his jerkin with flat cap, army surplus battledress and grandad shirt.

Immensely practical, they were a much-loved item of clothing, allowing freedom of movement but lovely and warm with a wool lining.

I rather fancy wearing one over a roll neck sweater like my Commando Woolly Pully or Submariner. Or perhaps my wool deck shirt.
